I recently started a new job, working with Yorkville University as an Admissions Advisor. I am still in training, so I haven’t gotten a really good feel for what the day-to-day job will be like just yet. However, I have been working at home for about a month now, so I thought I would share a little bit about what I have enjoyed so far.
So here it goes:
Ten Things that I Enjoy About Working From Home
1.) Convenient Bathroom Breaks: I can easily go use the bathroom when I need to! (Having been a teacher, I was used to always needing to get someone to cover my class, first.)
2.) Drink as Much as I Want Throughout the Day (non-alcoholic of course): The first point then brings me to my second point; I can drink as much as I want. All the water, tea, and coffee for Josie! haha
3.) Breaks Outside: I can go sit outside on my lunchbreak or quickly take a break on our back deck for some fresh air! It is so much easier to get outside for a break when you are working from home.
4.) More Time for a Healthy Morning Routine: I have so much time in the mornings to take my doggies for a walk, do some cleaning, and have time for a good breakfast.
5.) Less Time and Effort to Get Ready for the Work Day: I have been able to get ready for work pretty quickly in the mornings because all anyone can see in Zoom meetings is part of the top half of my body. haha No need for makeup or to look super duper fancy in the mornings. Although, I can dress up when I feel like it; dressing up sometimes makes me feel more productive.

6.) Can Complete Quick Chores during the Day at Lunchtime: I can take time out of my lunch hour to do something that needs to be done around the house, like throw in a load of laundry. It is just so convenient.
7.) Greater Independence and Autonomy: Working at home allows me to be an independent worker who manages her own time and doesn’t have micromanagers standing over her! I am managed from afar, which can be less stressful. My managers can see my online reports and the number of phone calls and emails I send each day, and this is how they assess my progress and productivity. This is much better than standing over my shoulder. 🙂
8.) Desire to Get Out of the House More Often: Working from home makes me have more of a desire to get out and do something during the weekdays, once or twice a week. This is good for us all, especially in Covid times.
9.) Increased Productivity: I am typically more productive while working from home because I am someone who concentrates better and prefers to work in a quiet environment. I can be easily distracted by noises around me, such as people talking, a radio, or a TV, when I am trying to concentrate on reading or writing something.
10.) No Mask at Work: Lastly, no masks for me while in my workplace at home! 🙂 This provides me with a less sweaty and more comfortable work experience. haha I’m all about wearing my mask in public spaces though to keep all of us safe.
So, while I experience some stress with beginning a brand new role, I have found that it is much easier to adjust to a new work schedule from the comfort of my own home! I am looking forward to communicating with prospective students in my new role as an Admissions Advisor at Yorkville University. I will get to help them decide whether or not a Master of Education program is a good fit for them and assist each student with the application process.
